2019 Perseverance Scholarship Winner

Austin Denton is the 2019 Perseverance Scholarship Winner.   Applicants must have stayed at RMHC Memphis and be going into college in the fall. The receipent is selected based on academic achievement, community service and extracurricluar activities, a personal statement and recomendations.

Austin Denton is an 18-year old senior student at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, NM.
Diagnosed at two years old with a rare spinal cord tumor, Austin was treated for a year at his
local hospital before being referred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. During his
treatment at St. Jude, Austin stayed twice at the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis. Now 10
years cancer free, but still visiting St. Jude for routine check-ups, Austin is an active member of
his home community, covering high school football and basketball as a sports journalist. He also
is his high school’s public address announcer for both the basketball and baseball programs,
while also serving as the social media director for the school’s football team. Austin currently
plans to attend Arizona State University, seeking a bachelor’s degree in sports journalism.
